Our Moghul pattern, inspired by the rich textile traditions of Central Asia and the elegant decorative motifs associated with Moghul courts, is our interpretation of suzani style embroideries. They often include motifs such as suns, moons, flowers, vines and pomegranates. As you can see in the image below, the larger sizes of Moghul  require more focused counting, but both the small Moghul as well as the lumbar cushions are less intense for counting stitches. Small Moghul was published originally in Stitcher’s World in 2002. The Design of the Month page on the website shows all sizes with discount prices.

My first collection published in the 1998 Catalog contained 10 pages of a Master Catalog of 28 patterns, available in up to four colors. We now offer 55 patterns in multiple sizes and with as many as five to ten color choices. And, we added many rugs and hangings, offered custom colors and our collaboration to convert patterns to upholstery.

A great deal has changed in our world since 1995. But, rather than be frightened by all that is going on in the larger and our own local world, let a cross-point kit or two bring you a time of silence and peace. It’s magical.

Stitching on soft jute rather than stiff canvas, allows for easy shaping to fit your furniture piece. Just a few examples of custom cross-point needlepoint upholstery below. Why trees?

Trees have been in the news lately and have been in a lot of conversations locally. In September of 2024 it affected me personally as a topic since 5 large trees fell in my woods during hurricane Helene and one mature oak fell directly on my house. That event and the fact that this year is the 350 year celebration since the Tree Charter became part of the Magna Carta, giving the common people specific rights in royal woods.

This month’s 10% Off Retail Special Offer pattern – Triangles with or without Acorns – holds a special place in my heart. That oak that fell on my house stood tall for decades, witnessing seasons, storms, and quiet days alike. On the surface Triangles is a simple and quickly stitched geometric design. Its historic background for carpet patterns from tribal lands hundreds of years old, as well as the quilting  “Christmas tree” design, remain fresh and classic. The pattern is rife with symbolism – both the triangle as well as the acorn.

The pattern is based on an Incan tunic. One is in the Gold Museum in Lima and a similar one at the Dumbarton Oak Estate in Washington, DC. The other in red, white and blue, is a painting in the Museo Inka in Cusco.

Shown below, this symbol is seen throughout Peru in jewelry, fountains and building decorations. It reminded me of the 12 pointed star that seems to occur in all cultures:

Pisac is an old city in the Sacred Valley not far from Cusco.  High above the valley, terraced small fields rise up the mountain sides against a backdrop of the snow covered Andean Mountains, creating an incredible landscape. History and Use of Kilims

Kilim needlepoint to stitch available in our cross-point technique this month is based on  kilim designs in our Collection. Kilim tapestries and rugs are among the most ancient textiles produced. Spanning from the Mediterranean, mainly Anatolia (modern day Turkey), across the Caucasus and Persia to Afghanistan,  to the edges of China and India. Originally produced by nomadic tribes for  use as wall hangings, wrappings for use in place of baskets and saddle cargo bags to load onto camels to facilitate moving from place to place.

In the past, kilims were often dismissed as being inferior to knotted pile rugs but now are highly sought after for interior decoration. Their patterns and colors blend into a variety of styles easily, from modern to traditional homes. While historical, religous and cultural symbols and their meaning are disappearing, the patterns present an incredible source for needlepoint stitching. The Kilim cross-point™ Kit Collection

Kilim needlepoints in our cross-point™ technique are a lot of fun to stitch. We have 14 designs available in many color and size options. I have researched the symbols and their meanings and have interpreted them for easy, fast and fun stitching.
