DESIGN OF THE MONTH – JANUARY 2020
TRADITIONAL ENGLISH NEEDLEWORK at 20% Off
Downton Abbey is and has been for several years now all the rage for television and movie viewers. This lush British historical period drama by Julian Fellowes is a worldwide phenomenon. Who will ever forget the Dowager Countess asking “what is a weekend?”
At cross-point.com™ we have several patterns in our collection of English patterns based on historic designs. Our Morville Wedding pillow has been adapted from a pair of Elizabethan cushion covers that were probably given as gifts to the bride and groom. The wedding pillow is dated 1601 and shows the initials of the couple. This design is a wonderful gift to present today to a bride and groom, with the current year date and initials. In addition to the Wedding Pillow, the Morville group includes three companion kits. In the next few months we will be offering more companion kits from the same historic period at the same Design of the Month 20% Off Retail special offer. Included will be our patterns SIENA, PARMA, NEWPORT and ANIMAL patterns.
the Morville group – 4 sizes and 4 color options (see 02 colors at top)
The original cushion cover is stitched in silk, linen and wool yarns on linen. Other cushion covers found in museums from Elizabethan times were often stitched in wool on “sacking”, which is close to our jute fabric. Pattern elements were chosen from nature – animals, birds, leaves and flowers. A variety of stitched pieces from Elizabethan England can be found in museums like the Art Institute in Chicago, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, and various museums in England. More details on Morville and companion patterns from the Jacobean period listed above can be found on the cross-point™ website.
