FEBRUARY & MARCH 2016 – KILIM II
Kilim II and NEW Kilim II Large Rectangle
This pattern is loosely based on a rug found in the Ottoman rug collection in Transylvanian churches that date back to the 17th Century. The center “cloud” design is believed to have originated in the Far East, probably brought from Asia to Hungary by Magyars around the year 960. It is a beautiful historic piece of textile and a great pattern to stitch as an heirloom to pass on to future generations. The outer borders of traditional motifs have been added from other Kilims to convert the pattern from a large rug to a smaller pillow size 19×19″ (48x48cm), and a larger rectangle, size 26″ wide x 20″ high (66x51cm).
Like our other Kilim patterns, Kilim II is a lot of fun to stitch and while it is a bit more challenging and ideal for stitchers who get easily bored with repetitive small geometrics, it can also be stitched by anyone with a little bit of experience because my instructions in the kit include a separate chart for just the main outlined central design. As with all cross-point™ kits, not only does the kit include individual pattern instructions but also our cross-point Technique™ sheets as well as large charts with colors and symbols. Also refer to About working on Jute on this blog.
